Boutz Estate Vineyards

We currently have 2 vineyards, Kendros and Boutz Ranch, both in the beautiful Adelaida District AVA (American Viticulture Area) of Paso Robles, CA. With our region’s diverse microclimates and our planted areas having varied soils and altitudes, our vineyards produce fruit with an abundance of characteristics. These characteristics are then reflected in the personalities of our wines. As we know, good wine can only come from good fruit and the happy terroir it is grown on.

Kendros Vineyard

Kendros Vineyard was our first planted land. The name “Kendros” means “center” in Greek,  and the property is located right in the center of the Adelaida District AVA, nestled up on a predominantly west facing mountainside. The name “Kendros” is also special to our family roots because our last name – Boutzoukas – originated on Mount Kendros in Crete, Greece.

This vineyard features large formations of Adelaide stone and steep hillsides, starting at 1,600 and reaching up to 2,200 feet in elevation. There are six blocks consisting of 4 different grape varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, and Syrah. With its generous water holding capacity and its high percentage of organic material accumulated throughout the years, all of our varietals are happy and thriving on this site.

Boutz Ranch

This land is on the northeast sector of the AVA and is just under 4 miles from Kendros. With it’s landscape not as steep or rocky as the other parts of the Adelaide, Boutz Ranch has it’s own diverse characteristics. Of the 36 planted acres, we have redeveloped over 14 of them and are in the process of switching to even more sustainable farming for the entire ranch.

Boutz Ranch is also the site where we are experimenting with our Greek varietals -- Moscofilero, Assyrtiko, Agriogitiko, Xinomavro, and Vidiano! The Cretan varietal, Liatiko, will be planted in the coming months and we are really excited to see how they grow in the soils/climate here in Paso Robles. This site is also the home of other traditional varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Sirah, Zinfandel, Grenache, and Mourvedre.
